God And The Globe

This video offers us a little lesson I have used for years in my World Religions classes.  It deals with the premodern concept of God, heaven, and earth.  In the premodern world, earth was flat, like a big island with God being above, up in the sky, and hell being down below.  Sacrifices were burned on altars to attract a god or gods down to attend to the affairs of mortals.  Today, in the modern, or postmodern world, we need to adjust our concept of divinity, especially when it comes to understanding the larger and more complex disasters that may occur here on earth.
